CELEBRATION
Staff Pledges
During a staff meeting in August 2012, all staff members were given an opportunity to record their current "green" acts or set green goals. Staff members who pledged to two or more of the following received a Green Environment Sign to place on their doors: save energy, save paper, recycle, reduce carbon footprint. The first file is the PowerPoint that was presented to the staff during a professional development meeting. The second file is the Excel document showing the environmental habits of each staff member. The third file is the small poster that each staff member hangs in his or her room to show off their environmentally friendly practices.

Caught Green-HandedIn order to reward teachers who try to reduce their impact on the environment, teachers who are seen doing a small act to benefit the environment, such as unplugging their computer or recycling some paper, are entered into a drawing to win small awards. Each staff member who is caught being green has their name entered into a raffle. At our every-other-month faculty meetings, names are drawn at random and prizes are given out. Marriotts Ridge Holds First Ecofest (2012)To expose entire families to being green, Marriotts Ridge and Mount View hosted an ecofest carnival on February 11, 2011. Children played carnival games with environmental themes. Several organizations set up display boards educating people about the environment or getting them involved in activities. The Fashion Club put on a fashion show of 100% recycled outfits. At the end, families were asked to fill out how they intended to change their habits.

Happy New Year!
Today begins our recycle drive. Students are being asked to bring in old broken or working small electronics to their 6th period teachers. (cell phones, Ipods, gps, graphic calculators, laptops, ink cartridges, etc.) Students from the Environmental Club will be coming around to pick them up every day during 6th period. I have boxes if you would like to have in your room. If not, if you can just hold onto the items, that is fine also.
Please:
-although these are donations, they are still things that could be of value to some. So, I am asking that you store the items in a safe place until they are picked up.
-encourage your students to bring in items!!
The class with the highest amount of items brought in will get a pizza party!!
Thanks!!
